As a small business owner, it is so easy to just get the job done, as no one else knows how ‘it’ needs to be done better than you- right? Wrong! It’s time to change your mindset about your business so you can create time to work on it.
Here are my top 3 ways to start to work on your business and not in it.
Ask for support- create a network around you that you feel comfortable with and confident asking for advice or as a sounding board for new ideas. Your support network could consist of a business coach or a fellow tradie.
Engaging with a business coach can open up a whole new dimension on how to run your business, plus most business coaches have a wide range of experts in their network that want to help you succeed. They could be marketing and sales experts to financial advisors and accountants.
Bouncing ideas around with a fellow tradie could open up the possibility of creating a partnership or a perspective that you had never thought of before.
Innovate and create- Give yourself time and brain space to research and analyse the latest trends in the industry. Create an ideas list and put together a plan on how you are going to implement them. This gives you the opportunity to keep up to date with what has been happening in your industry and to create and implement new ideas or processes in your own business to get ahead.
Delegate- This is a hard one. To relinquish tasks that someone else in your business is more than capable of doing. Learn to trust your employees or outsource to a freelance business, duties that either don’t interest you, are not within your skill set or you really don’t have time to do.
I know this feels impossible- but it is worth the struggle of changing your habits and your mindset. It will free up your time and your brain space to be able to focus on your business- for the long term sustainability of what you have grown to date.
